Government Affairs
At AANR, our mission is to "Advocate nudity and nude recreation in appropriate settings, and educate and inform society of the value and enjoyment of such through on-going member growth." We take this mission very seriously, and depend on you, our members, to help keep us apprised of developments that could infringe on our right to practice nudism. AANR is always looking for opportunities to make a positive differences the credible voice of reason---explaining the wholesome benefits of nudity and nude recreation to lawmakers, staff, decision makers in business and even your next-door neighbor.
Government Affairs Needs Local Volunteers
The AANR-Florida GAT chair has the ability to stay on top of legislation going on at the state and nation level that can effect our way of life, but trying to keep up with things on a local level is a little harder.
If you hear of things going on at the local level let the GAT chair know. Be the eyes of AANR-Florida on the local level.
Anyone wanting to help with strategies to bring a clothing-optional area back to MacArthur State Park are also being sought.
To volunteer or report something on the local leve, contact our GAT chair at paul.brown@aanr-florida.org.
AANR Region Politics at the GRASS ROOTS
By Shirley Heaton, Past President, FANR
Now that the campaign is over, here's hoping you're satisfied with some, if not all, of the results. Remember, in the business of American politics, you win some and you lose some - and, NO, you don't get mad, you just get even! That is, you go along with the situation, this time, while getting ready for the next election in a couple of years. So what do you do in the interim? Twiddling thumbs while curled up in your easy chair and pouting is not an option. It's always been my theory that when the current political arena appears tough, we toughies get political!
Where to begin? Well, since there are a lot of new faces in Tallahassee whom we need to 'meet and greet,' what better place to do so than on their 'turf' at the state capitol. It's advisable, however, to make the visit at a time after they have found their way to the wash room and they realize the ringing bell is not a signal for the TV game, Jeopardy, to begin.
Your local phone book, library or Supervisor of Election Office will have the information on names, addresses and phone numbers for your State Senator and House of Representative, but pa-lease don't request the e-mail address. It's too impersonal and what you're doing at this point is contacting them to set up a 'getting to know you' session.
For those of you who can't get to Tallahassee while the legislature is in session, try writing to the offices for copies of the handbooks at the following addresses:
SENATE:
Secretary of the Senate
The Capitol
404 S. Monroe Street, Suite 405
Tallahassee, FL 32399-1100
HOUSE:
Clerk of the House of Representatives
The Capitol
402 S. Monroe Street, Suite 423
Tallahassee, FL 32399-1300
Be certain to also touch base with those who staff local offices. Remember, the best way to protect our treasured lifestyle is to get political from the beginning and let our politicos know who we are, where we are and ensure them it pays to garner our support.
